Dear friends and followers, welcome back to my channel!
On the 20th of February 2021, a United Boeing 777-200, registration N772UA performing flight UA-328 from Denver,CO to Honolulu,HI (USA) with 231 passengers and 10 crew, was in the initial climb out of Denver's runway 25 when the right hand engine's (PW4077) inlet separated associated with the failure of the engine. The crew declared Mayday reporting an engine failure. The aircraft stopped the climb at about 13000 feet, the crew requested to return to Denver after running the checklists. ATC offered any runway, they would make it happen. The aircraft returned to Denver for a safe landing on runway 26 about 23 minutes after departure. The aircraft stopped on the runway for a check by emergency services. Emergency services advised of an active fire within the right hand engine and extinguished the fire a few minutes later. The aircraft was subsequently towed off the runway to a remote parking stand, where passengers disembarked and were bussed to the terminal. There were no injuries.
The engine inlet fell into the neighbourhood of Broomfield,CO, located about 16nm west of Denver near 13th and Elmwood Street, the debris also struck through the roof of an adjacent house.
Broomfield police reported that although debris impacted the neighbourhood and damaged a number of homes, there were no injuries on the ground. The debris field expands over a nautical mile.
Ground observers reported hearing the sound of an explosion like bang, smoke and saw the debris falling down. The aircraft continued flying.
Watch the video to learn more about what happened!
Thank you very much for your time! I hope you enjoy this video!

First Officer Joe, the last thing we need in our industry is another pilot speculating on an incident and presenting misinformation. Here are a of the few things you got wrong. 1. Climb thrust after takeoff on a 777, especially out of Denver would be a decrease from a takeoff power, not be an increase. It at takes place at approximately 800 AGL not at 12,500. Hence, your speculation on the nature failure is uninformed. 2. The appropriate checklist and the one used on this flight was the Engine Severe Damage or Separation checklist (L/R). This checklist is specifically designed to isolate the engine, so your speculation about hydraulic failures is also uniformed. Speaking of the engines, they are not numbered 1 and 2, but rather L and R. Now if you can tell us why they are not numbered, you might actually garner some respect from those of us who actually fly the B777 or maybe demonstrate that you have some knowledge of the aircraft. 3. Turning into a bad engine would not be consideration on this flight given their airspeed and energy state at the time of the turn. In fact, on a 777 it would never be a consideration except on a V1 cut and only if you allowed your airspeed to decay below V2. I could go on, but you get my point. Professional pilots do not speculate on the nature of accidents/incidents and they certainly don't do it for self promotion or profit. We allow the actual aviation safety professionals, in this case the NTSB, to do their job and make the determination as to what happened and why. Then we take that information and use it to make our industry safer. All you have done here is provide false information and profited off of an unfortunate event.

Well done video Captain Joe. Hats off to ATC and the United crew for doing exceptional work getting that a/c on the deck with no loss of life. Things could have gone catastrophic at any time. I worked on the flightline for years...seen my share of crippled a/c and hard landings. This crew and ATC did an amazing job

That plane shouldn't be allowed to use same strip.. That strip should be out of service once they learned that last plane using it has problems.. Hehehe there should right away service people checking it for debris or so.. Hehehe remember Concord.. We were to cocky.. I knew right away there was tire blown for some reasons & punctured fuel tanks.. 737 max the first went down.. Hehehe i said right away engineering design flaws.. They should keep fuselage but redesign wings with replacement of engine positioning or smaller engines.. Hehehe no other options.. Computer can't compensate all the time..accordingly.. Hehehe just saying

Hehehe yes I tried to warn them about engineering blunder in design of pitot tubes... Hehehe they just thought.. Another idiot.. Thale sold the unit to British & they quickly changed the name.. Hehehe they all knew long ago about problems with it..

for the average person watching this video - the aircraft WILL CONTINUE flying safely with a single engine. in fact the aircraft will take off fully loaded with a single engine. the aircraft will fly indefinitely with a single engine. the aircraft cannot be put in service unless it will operate with a single engine. what you are watching is THE REASON they put 2 engines on the aircraft.

what advantage did he get my declaring Mayday? I had a similar some years ago with no. 2 where the mechanic had left a mag light flashlight in the engine, blew climbing through 10k requested return, and was asked several times if I was declaring an emergency which I refused, but then again I was a freight dog.

I am amazed that abbreviations are permitted on a checklist. Surely in any emergency, it is possible a non-pilot may be executing these instructions? Also, when people are leaning towards panic, the LAST thing your brain wants to do is remember so random acronym or abbreviation. What the hell is A/T? IMHO, very stupid.

Sorry, the fire extinguishing agents do not affect the internal engine, but only external. Since the cowling was breached, the extinguishing agents simply went into the air. The flames were simply burning excess fuel and oil from the damage. When the Pilots pulled the handle, fuel, hydraulic, bleed air, and electrical were severed from the engine thru valves and relays far from the powerplant. Still a great video for most who fly but have no idea. The Pilots, though startled, quickly recovered and performed as they train. Awesome job by the crew and the aircraft as well!

What more could we ask fore? How about for this incident to never have happened. Would have been a lot better. Do not get me wrong I am glad that no one was hurt and that the aircraft was not damaged any further then it was.

It failed safely. So that's nice. It could have been far worse. Sure, it should have been better. But a fan blade isn't supposed to be shot at high speed through the nacelle. I still am not sure if the nacelle was supposed to sheer off. Would containing it really have been better? 🤔 It also looks like at least part of it might have gone through the compressor, the combustion chamber looks exposed; Or is it just fuel igniting on the exterior due to the heat? 🧐 I like planes :|

Who are you? You have a few statements that aren’t true. Do you even fly for a career or just an aviation buff? Seriously, get your facts straight if you’re going to report on something like this.

Turning into the dead engine is no big deal. A right turn would put them over runway 25. A left turn gives them the offset for an approach to runway 25. First officer Joe speculates frequently.
