I haven’t been to boca chica for a year now due to the covid lockdown, but I can hardly believe the change! From just a few buildings plus hoppy right on the road to the beach to the this full fledged, 24x7 modern factory. Who would have guessed? And Mary has filmed it, every day, wind, rain, fog, mosquitos, every step. THANK YOU BOCACHICAGAL! A record for history.

Has anyone at NASASpaceflight estimated, or has SpaceX disclosed, what it will cost to manufacture their own subcooled LOX and LCH4 per Kg? I've seen articles suggesting $1 - $2 Million to fuel a starship, and $3.66/Kg for bulk LOX

If it is anything like any other R&D department, it will be the same range as here in the comments. When 'legs' are your part, then all tests so far have failed (to produce result anyway) and you are bummed. If you had part in the descent software then all tests have exceeded expectations ans champagne is flowing freely.

@Srinivas R. The orbital launch table is part of the orbital launch pad. The orbital launch pad will consist of the launch table on top of the 6 pillars that are already in place (and have just been squared off at 5:30) and the launch tower which they are just now building the foundation for.

I wonder how the raptors have been modified to address the suboptimal engine pressures, erratic combustion and their tendency to fail to reignite or explode? If they keep failing, a root cause analysis and major engine re-think could be in order. Don’t have a hissy fit or blindly deny it because you are a chat fan. This is a real rocket meant to carry people. Denial of reality is insanity. Now let’s see how many of you are insane. Tell me why I am wrong.
  • iamjadedhobo
    iamjadedhobo
    Il y a 18 jours
The Raptors they mount onto the Starship prototypes are not fresh out of their wrappers. They, and their siblings, have been tested at McGregor. Besides, in every R&D setting, the items being demo'd are *always* a few generations behind. As a developer I can attest to how frustrating that is, seeing something fail when you already have the solution, but just not production ready. Or on an engine which has now another set of issues.
  • Michael Deierhoi

I’ll never get tired of these daily videos. Thanks for all of the hard work that lets the rest of us have a front row seat to witness history being made.

5:30 It looks like some new rebar poking out from the top of the Orbital Launch Stand columns. It also looks like a wedge of material has been cut from the top of five columns to make them level. Perhaps preparation for mounting the launch table being built in the construction area.

Marcus House showed a photo that Grimez(?) posted on twitter where you can see Bong Number 1 from the floor up. BN1 is sitting on top of a 5 meter (at a guess) high stand. So there is some margin.

Good design: it would be a bust if the high bay was too short!

Can you please tell me what we are looking at with the part starting with the migrating birds? I'd like to know how the local ecology is being monitored? Is SpaceX being responsible as a developer? I'm sure there are issues with every greenfield site like Boca Chica, but as Mary is a proper local personality can I ask for your comments please? Thanks from the UK for the historic coverage. I'm spellbound.

@Ian Hutchings I am an avid birder myself here in New Mexico and would love to visit SE Texas for the birds and to see the starship.

That will indeed be very interesting to follow. The migratory pathway for a large portion of migrating birds is right up through Texas especially along the coast. The migration is already under way and will peak in South Texas in the next couple, three weeks. It is also note worthy to mention the Las Palmas Wildlife Management Area right around the Space launch pad and production facility. In addition there is the Las Palmas Wildlife Refuge and a couple state parks just to the north. You are right to be concerned about the wildlife. As you probably noticed those were brown pelicans flying over head.
